Use Energy in the Room, but Don’t Need It

When speaking in public, learn to use the energy in a room without depending on it. When I first started speaking I was dependent on interaction from my audience to give me energy to fuel my speaking. Sometimes it was there, sometimes it wasn’t. You can’t depend on it. If you bring your own energy and excitement to your speech, you don’t need energy from your audience. You already have it. This practice will sometimes bring energy into a room and cause your audience to get excited which helps you get even more excited. Use that. Let it energize you, but don’t depend on it. Don’t deflate when it’s not there. Don’t deflate when it goes away. Keep going.
